“The local area in D.C. is actively working to reduce fatalities on the road,” Rachael Brennan, an insurance reporter at U.S. News and World Report, told 海角精品黑料.

U.S. News compared 2024 traffic fatality data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with population data from the country’s largest cities. The District had the .

“D.C. is implementing several strategies to reduce traffic fatalities, including data-driven approaches to identify and address places where fatalities are more likely, and safety measures like eliminating dual turn conflicts and targeted prohibitions on right turns on red,” she said.

New York City ranked first overall, followed by Boston and San Francisco.

“The way that your city is running is working and it’s doing what it can do to take care of its people, and that’s really wonderful,” Brennan said.

Those three cities are also known for traffic congestion, which Brennan said may play a role in reducing fatal crashes.

“Common sense will tell you that the more people are on the road, the slower you have to travel, the less likely you are to be in a fatal accident. Perhaps more likely to be in a fender bender, but you’re less likely to die in a car accident due to congestion. Washington D.C. is one of those areas,” Brennan said.听

D.C. recorded 46 traffic deaths in 2024, a fatality rate of 0.66 per 10,000 people. New York’s fatality rate was 0.26 per 10,000 residents, while Boston’s was 0.37.

“While that’s 46 fatalities too many, and we should work to prevent them all, it’s good to know that it’s such a small percentage of the total population,” she said.

The findings were at odds with Allstate’s recent 2026 Best Drivers Report, which ranked D.C. second to last.

3 dead after car hits motorcycle on Maryland Route 301 /maryland/2026/07/3-dead-after-car-hits-motorcycle-on-maryland-route-301/ Mon, 13 Jul 2026 13:00:27 +0000 /?p=29424800 Three people are dead and one was sent to the hospital following a crash on Route 301 in Prince George’s County, Maryland, early Sunday morning, according to state police.

it happened at 12:45 a.m. when a black Tesla Model 3 was making a left turn from Route 301 onto Governors Park Lane.

Police said that the Tesla “failed to yield” to the right of way of a Harley-Davidson traveling southbound on Route 301.

The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Tesla, police said.

Following the collision with the Tesla, police believe a third vehicle hit a passenger on the motorcycle and left the scene. Police don’t have a description of that vehicle and they’re searching for its driver.

The rear passenger in the Tesla, the motorcycle driver and a passenger on the motorcycle died at the scene, police said.

The motorcycle鈥檚 driver and passenger were identified as 48-year-old Matthew Eric Vowell and 47-year-old Krystal Ann Vowell, both from Friendship, Maryland.

The rear-seat passenger in the Tesla was identified as 22-year-old Adriana Lanae Maxwell of Glen Burnie.

The Tesla鈥檚 driver, who was not publicly identified, was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators believe the Tesla was being used as a rideshare vehicle at the time of the crash.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation.

Police asked the public for help finding the driver who fled the scene. Tips can be called into 410-819-4753.

Special AI art installation honoring the Smithsonian comes to the National Mall /dc/2026/07/smithsonian-dreams-ai-art-installation-coming-to-smithsonian-castle-on-national-mall/ Sun, 12 Jul 2026 14:43:30 +0000 /?p=29424645 The Smithsonian Castle will become the canvas for a new AI-powered art installation on the National Mall next weekend.

“Smithsonian Dreams,” a free public art experience created by artist Refik Anadol, will be presented July 17-18 from 9 to 11 p.m. each night, featuring lights, sound and large-scale visuals projected onto the Castle.

The installation uses a custom artificial intelligence system to reinterpret nearly two centuries of Smithsonian collections and research, drawing from millions of digitized items, including specimens, manuscripts, photographs, artworks and scientific records.

“For me, data is a form of memory,鈥 Anadol said. 鈥淭he Smithsonian preserves one of humanity鈥檚 most extraordinary repositories of knowledge, accumulated across generations of discovery and imagination. ‘Smithsonian Dreams’ asks what might emerge if that vast memory could become dynamic, if the Castle itself could learn from its collections, reflect upon them and dream through them.”

, its museums, libraries, archives and research centers collectively hold more than 157 million objects and specimens, 2.1 million library volumes and approximately 156,000 cubic feet of archival materials that helped inform the project.

“Since its founding, the Smithsonian has sought new ways to share knowledge with the public and inspire future generations,” said Lisa Sasaki, the Smithsonian’s deputy under secretary for special projects.

鈥溾楽mithsonian Dreams鈥 reflects that spirit of innovation, bringing together art, technology and one of the world鈥檚 greatest collections of knowledge in an experience that invites visitors to see the Smithsonian鈥檚 vast collections in a new way where history, culture, science and imagination converge.”

The presentation runs from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. both nights.

Admission is free, and visitors seeking a prime viewing spot are encouraged to arrive on the National Mall by 8 p.m.

Another round of showers, thunderstorms likely for DC area /weather-news/2026/07/another-round-of-showers-thunderstorms-likely-for-dc-area/ Fri, 10 Jul 2026 09:58:57 +0000 /?p=29419420 It’s looking like another rainy start to the weekend as storms are expected in the D.C. region Friday.

After Thursday night’s rainstorm, commuting Friday might have some struggles.

“Watch out for areas of patchy, dense fog for the morning commute following last night’s rain,” said 7News First Alert Meteorologist Eileen Whelan. “Have the sunglasses, as well, with morning sunshine that could cause sun glare.”

Friday morning is expected to be sunny and warm, but the afternoon is expected to be increasingly cloudy.

“Another round of showers and thunderstorms is expected during the afternoon hours,” Whelan said.

But those storms are not expected to be as widespread or severe as Thursday.

She said one or two storms could produce “damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours.”

On Saturday, she said to expect “muggy conditions” ahead of a cold front that could bring some more rain in the afternoon and evening but nothing severe is expected.

“Overall, plan for more clouds than sun with highs in the 80s for your Saturday plans,” she said.

Sunday is expected to be a little less humid with a mix of sun and clouds and “comfortable high temperatures in the 80s,” Whelan said.

Next week though, that brutal heat is expected to return.

“Very pleasant weather kicks-off the week, but a building heat wave will bring the returns of high temperatures in the 90s starting Tuesday,” Whelan said.

But there’s some good news.

“Fortunately, this next heat wave won’t be anywhere near as extreme as the last one,” she said.

More rain ahead following wet start to the week in DC area /weather-news/2026/07/more-rain-ahead-following-wet-start-to-the-week-in-dc-area/ Tue, 07 Jul 2026 18:33:33 +0000 /?p=29412188 There’s more rain headed to the region over the next few days, but it won’t be as intense as the storms that hit the D.C. area over the holiday weekend.

For Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service predicted “numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms” followed by isolated thunderstorms after midnight.

“We do not have a flood watch for the metro area. However, we could be looking at a few showers and heavier downpours as we head through the late evening,” 7News First Alert Meteorologist Steve Rudin said, especially west of D.C.

He also said it’s going to be a little cooler Wednesday.

“We’ll drop to the upper 60s to middle 70s by early tomorrow morning,” Rudin said, and rise into the lower 80s later Wednesday.

On your Wednesday commute, watch out for patchy fog and potential morning showers. But there’s only a 30% chance of rain in the morning and afternoon.

Rain chances increase to 70% on Wednesday night. Showers are most likely after midnight, according to the weather service.

Showers will likely stick around Thursday and Friday, and there’s a possibility of storms on both days.

Chance showers, patchy Fog
Lows:听68-75
Winds:听Northeast 2-5 mph
Showers and a few thunderstorms may continue into the overnight hours before gradually becoming more scattered. Areas of low clouds and patchy fog are possible where heavy rain falls. Overnight lows will only fall into the lower 70s, keeping conditions warm and humid.

WEDNESDAY:
Mostly to partly sunny
Chance showers, storms
Highs: 80-85
Winds: Northeast 5-10 mph
Mostly cloudy skies, east to northeast winds, and seasonable temperatures will keep highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s. A few showers and thunderstorms remain possible during the afternoon and evening, but widespread severe weather is not expected.

THURSDAY:
Mostly to partly sunny
Chance showers and storms
贬颈驳丑蝉:听85-90
Shower and thunderstorm chances increase again Thursday as an approaching cold front moves toward the region. Warmer and more humid conditions will allow the atmosphere to juice up a bit, and a few storms could become strong.

FRIDAY:
Partly cloudy
Scattered showers, storms possible
贬颈驳丑蝉:听near 90
奥颈苍诲蝉:听West 5-10 mph
Friday looks to be another active weather day as the cold front slowly pushes across the area. Showers and thunderstorms remain likely, with isolated strong to severe storms possible. Heavy rain will once again be a concern, especially where storms repeatedly move over the same locations. Temperatures will remain warm and humid, reaching the middle to upper 80s before gradually easing later in the day.

With this scorching听weather, how much water should you really be drinking? /lifestyle/2026/07/with-this-scorching-weather-how-much-water-should-you-really-be-drinking/ Sat, 04 Jul 2026 09:03:29 +0000 /?p=29402845 The big recommendation is always to drink a lot of water when it gets hot. Well, with these extreme record temperatures, how much water does that mean?

According to the CDC, in the heat you’ll want to drink 8 ounces of water every 15 to 20 minutes, which is about a quart every hour.

And don’t chug it all at once. Smaller sips are better. And there is such a thing as too much water.

You should not drink more than 1 and a half quarts each hour as it could cause you to lose the amount of salt in your blood, which could prompt a medical emergency.

“There are safety precautions and things you need to be prepared for. Hydration, drink plenty of water, stay hydrated, bring a bottle of water with you. Activity management, bottle of water, aluminum, some metal, some glass,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich during a news conference on the dangerous heat wave and the importance of bringing fluids with you if you’re celebrating outside this weekend.

Reaching for that Fourth of July beer while in this record heat might not be the best idea.

Drinking alcohol within 24 hours of being active in the heat can increase your risk of heat-related illness, according to the CDC. So grab that bottle of water instead.

The same thing applies to energy drinks as well. Some energy drinks contain more caffeine than standard servings of coffee, tea or soft drinks and could impact your heart rate, which may already be elevated due to the heat.

Movement aims at making July 5 the inaugural national Martyrs’ Day /holidays/2026/07/movement-aims-at-making-july-5-the-inaugural-national-martyrs-day/ Sat, 04 Jul 2026 01:29:17 +0000 /?p=29402523 The 250th anniversary of the U.S. is on July Fourth this year. And now, there’s a movement to celebrate the day after, July 5, as the first annual Martyrs’ Day.

“It’s almost like Martyrs’ Day was hiding in plain view,” said Gloria Browne-Marshall, a constitutional law professor at John Jay College, which is part of CUNY.

She said July 5 was chosen because it’s the anniversary of Frederick Douglass’ 1852 speech about what Independence Day meant to those enslaved.

“I think that our fifth of July tribute is asking the question, ‘Let’s look at the people who paid the price for the freedoms we have,'” she said.

Browne-Marshall said the semiquincentennial celebration of the U.S. seemed like the perfect time.

“I thought it would be important to also pay tribute to regular people whose lives were taken as protesters, activists, or their lives triggered protests, activism and social justice in this country,” she said.

Browne-Marshall is the author of “A Protest History of the United States.” She said she came up with the idea for Martyrs’ Day while talking to people on her book tour.

And she said the day is being recognized in different ways across the United States.

“All local communities have their own way of paying tribute to their local martyrs,” she said.

At Bus Boys and Poets in Hyattsville, Maryland, . Browne-Marshall said different areas across the country are celebrating it in different ways, including with church services and prayers.

“It’s not to compete with the Fourth of July at all, it’s just to reflect on the freedoms we just celebrated,” she said.

Scattered showers, thunderstorms stick around DC region late Sunday before heat moves into town /weather-news/2026/06/flood-watch-issued-for-dc-area-with-wet-weather-thunderstorms-expected-sunday/ Sun, 28 Jun 2026 23:27:14 +0000 /?p=29387346 Residents can anticipate a few more rounds of scattered showers and thunderstorms late Sunday after a cold front brought heavy rainfall across large parts of the D.C. region.

7News First Alert Meteorologist Mark Pe帽a said the chance for continued storms wraps up around midnight, but not before a half-inch of rain accumulates. He warned that a “low end flash flooding threat” continues for low-water crossings “that tend to swell after heavy rainfall.”

The latest comes after Northern Virginia was placed under a flood warning alert by the National Weather Service. At the time, 海角精品黑料 Meteorologist said rain was falling at rates of 2 to 3 inches an hour on Interstate 66 near Oakton, Fairfax and Vienna.

The District and surrounding areas were also placed under a flood watch. Both weather notices were lifted by 2 p.m. Sunday.

By Monday morning, however, commuters will be met with partly cloudy and patchy fog conditions and temperatures in the mid-60s, according to Pe帽a. The day’s highest temperatures will peak around 90 degrees.

Heat and humidity increase Tuesday as winds turn southerly, with highs returning to the lower 90s under mostly sunny skies.

Dangerous heat builds Wednesday and continues into the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Highs reach the upper 90s and could approach 100, with heat index values between 102 and 107.

FORECAST

SUNDAY NIGHT: Scattered Shower
Lows: 65-70
Winds: East 5 mph
Scattered downpours will continue through about midnight that could lead to isolated instances of flash flooding for areas west of Highway 15. Otherwise, gradual clearing after midnight with seasonable temperatures.

MONDAY: Mostly Sunny
Highs: 85-90
Winds: Southeast 5-10 mph
Monday looks like the pick of the extended forecast. High pressure builds overhead, bringing a mix of sunshine and fair-weather clouds with much lower rain chances. Temperatures remain seasonably warm in the mid to upper 80s, and humidity stays relatively comfortable. It will be an excellent day for outdoor plans before a much hotter pattern develops.

TUESDAY: Mostly Sunny
Highs: 88-93
Winds: South 5-10 mph
The heat begins to build as high pressure shifts offshore and winds turn more southerly. Afternoon temperatures climb into the lower 90s under mostly sunny skies. Humidity also starts increasing, although rain chances remain very low.

WEDNESDAY: Sunny and Hot
Highs: 95-100
Heat Index: 102-107
Winds: Southwest 5-10 mph
Extreme heat begins to build around much of the eastern 2/3 of the United States. Along with a surge of tropical moisture, temperatures will approach 100 degrees and feel as hot as 102 to 107 degrees with the heat index. It is imperative to check on neighbors, the elderly, and pets and make sure they have access to adequate cooling as temperatures will continue to climb into the low 100s through the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Heat is the leading cause of weather-related deaths in the United States.

THURSDAY: Sunny & Hot
Highs: 100-105
Heat Index: 107-112
Winds: Southwest 5-10 mph
Intense heat builds across the East Coast with highs well above 100 degrees and heat index values ranging from 107 to as hot as 112 degrees. We will monitor the chance for pop-up thunderstorms, but confidence is low at this time for any relief. The record for Thursday is 101 degrees set over 125 years ago in 1898. Leading up to a big outdoor holiday such as the Fourth of July, it is extremely important to remember heat safety which includes staying plenty hydrated, taking breaks in the shade, wearing light-colored, loose fitting clothing, and applying and re-applying sunscreen.

Northern Virginia native was in ‘disbelief’ after being picked to voice Mrs. Potato Head in ‘Toy Story 5’ /movies/2026/06/northern-virginia-native-was-in-disbelief-after-being-picked-to-voice-mrs-potato-head-in-toy-story-5/ Sun, 28 Jun 2026 21:52:02 +0000 /?p=29387684 An Arlington, Virginia, native has taken on an iconic vegetable in one of the biggest animated film franchises ever: Mrs. Potato Head.

Anna Vocino said she was shocked when she heard she landed the animated role in Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 5.”

“I read on it, and then my agent called me,” Vocino said, detailing how the studio was looking for her availability to record for the role.

Vocino said she thought Disney and Pixar were asking her to do “scratch tracking,” where producers have someone come in to read, and then have another actor record the final version for the movie. But that wasn’t the case here.

“They’re like, ‘no, no,听to do the actual part,’ and I was听just in disbelief,” she said. “I was in disbelief up until I think after I even recorded it.”

Producers gave Vocino the option to either record at home or at the Pixar campus.

“I was like, ‘duh,听go to the Pixar campus,'” she said.

Taking on the role

Vocino said she felt a lot of pressure taking on the role because she was replacing Estelle Harris, who voiced the iconic role in the first four films.

Harris died in 2022 at the age of 93.

“I wanted to make sure that I did it well and did her justice and made her family proud and made her memory proud,” Vocino said.

She said she even got to meet Mr. Potato Head, her animated “husband” in the movie that’s voiced by Jeff Bergman in “Toy Story 5.”

Bergman took over the role after the 2017 death of actor Don Rickles, who voiced Mr. Potato Head since the first film in 1995. Rickles died at the age of 90.

“I recorded my session, and as I was walking out, Jeff was coming in to do his session. So we got to meet each other, give each other a hug, and then have since been in touch …听and talking about what it’s like to be the Potato Heads,” she said.

Vocino is hopeful that maybe the viewers will get a little more backstory about the vegetable couple in the future.听“We’re trying to convince Pixar to do a Potato Head origin story, so that we can find out how the Potato Heads met. That’s what we want to do,” she said.

Northern Virginia roots

Vocino grew up in Northern Virginia and traveled around the area with her mom who was a United Methodist minister.

She grew up singing and said she believes it really helped her develop her skills as a voice actor.

“I was in church choir, trained as a singer, played the piano, and I have noticed that people who I now meet in voice-over, a lot of them have a musical background, I think that the music ear helped with the voice matching with the rhythm in the case,” she said.

Vocino does stand up and always like doing “funny voices” and realized it just fit.

“We need actors, we need entertainment, and听yet we think that it’s all the Tom Hanks and the Tim Allens … we need those guys, but we also need the little journeyman actors who fill in the other roles, like myself, and I’ve been lucky to be one of those guys,” she said.

But Vocino’s life isn’t all behind the microphone. She also deals with food for her other gig.

She鈥檚 the founder and CEO of Eat Happy Kitchen, a brand known for clean-ingredient pasta sauces, spices, and snacks.

The company, she said, started out of her own struggles after being diagnosed with celiac disease in 2002.

“I was upset to find out that gluten was in pretty much everything that I like to eat, being half southern and half Italian, with all the good foods, you name it 鈥斕齪asta, red velvet cake, key lime pie, fried chicken. Like, you name it, I couldn’t have it,” she said. “So I was like, let me figure out how to make this stuff, and I started blogging about it.”

Vocino’s brand is now in about 1,300 retailers nationwide.

3 men dead after small plane crashes near Bowie neighborhood /prince-georges-county/2026/06/deadly-plane-crash-in-bowie-maryland-state-police-say/ Sun, 21 Jun 2026 19:44:50 +0000 /?p=29367959
海角精品黑料's Ian Crawford and Dan Ronan with the latest following a plane crash near a neighborhood late Saturday night in Bowie, Maryland, that left three people dead.

A single-engine plane crashed near a residential neighborhood late Saturday in Bowie, Maryland, leaving three people dead, according to police.

The single-engine Piper Cherokee crashed around 11:30 p.m. with a pilot and two passengers on board, according to Maryland State Police spokesperson Elena Russo. All three people on board were men. Identification is being withheld pending next of kin notification, police said.

The plane was en route from Ocean City, New Jersey, to Montgomery County Airpark in Gaithersburg, Russo said.

Prince George鈥檚 County Public Safety Communications received information at 11:53 p.m. about an “iPhone crash alert” that indicated “a crash in the area of Rt. 50 and 301,” Russo said.

The search for the plane

Multiple local agencies responded and began a ground and aerial search immediately, including members of the Prince George鈥檚 County Fire Department, Maryland State Police College Park Barrack, Anne Arundel County Police and Aviation, Bowie City Police and the Prince George鈥檚 County Police Department.

The aircraft was located around 3:45 a.m., “in a wooden area in close proximity to a residential area” off of Scarlet Oak Terrace, Russo said, noting a public park was in the nearby area.

鈥淲e don鈥檛 have any other information at this point from any eye witnesses or anybody that heard anything. The only thing we have is that iPhone crash alert,” she said.

The debris covers about 100 feet in a wooded area behind a fence that is “very close to a townhome community behind a playground,” she said.

Police said they believe the plane belongs to an area flight school in Montgomery County and “was possibly participating in a training flight.”

“It鈥檚 absolutely a tragic incident that we are here investigating today. It could have been even worse because of the proximity of the crash was literally right next to a town home community in Bowie,” Russo said.

The plane that crashed is mostly ‘very safe’

海角精品黑料’s Dan Ronan, who is a licensed pilot, said the Piper Cherokee is commonly used in training because it is relatively easy to operate.

“It is frequently flown, very safe,” Ronan said.It is a relatively simple airplane to fly because it does not have retractable landing gear. The gear is fixed. The engine is relatively simple in terms of aviation parlance. Managing the engine and the power settings is relatively simple, as compared to other complex, more complicated airplanes,” he said.听

When it comes to visibility, Ronan said Saturday night was very clear and conditions were favorable for flying.

“As far as nights to fly, last night was a gorgeous night,” he said.

The temperature was cool, it was in the 70s, the visibility was wide open, very good visibility in terms of flying. If you’re going to pick a night to fly general aviation and do a cross country from Ocean City, New Jersey, to our area, very, very good night to fly in terms of just overall conditions.”

NTSB investigation

The investigation will be led by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration. The NTSB dispatched an official from its area field office who is expected to arrive Sunday.听

The NTSB said in a statement to 海角精品黑料 that additional information is expected Monday.

“Once on scene, the investigator will begin documenting the site and examining the aircraft,” the NTSB said. “They will request air traffic communications, radar data, and weather reports, and attempt to contact any witnesses. Additionally, the investigator will obtain the aircraft鈥檚 maintenance records, as well as the pilot鈥檚 medical records and flight history.”

Ronan said that the NTSB will be looking at the pilot, passengers, aircraft and all elements before and during flight.

They’re going to be looking at the airplane, the condition of the airplane, all of the mechanical records, and then, of course, they will deconstruct the lives of those poor people who passed away,” Ronan said.

Sadly, they will be deconstructing the last week of their lives to try and figure out what, if any, human factors might have been a contributing factor that caused this accident late last night, early this morning.”听

鈥淭he time when you encourage your child to go swimming for the first time, picking them up for school. How much fun it is to do your work with them while they鈥檙e doing their homework next to you,鈥 Duru said.

The idea for the book came from King, who had been working on a message to his own children.

鈥淪hani was working on kind of a piece of writing 鈥 a poem, a love letter to his children 鈥 and he shared it with me, and I was like, that鈥檚 incredible. And he said, 鈥榃hat do you think about us turning this into a book together?鈥欌 Duru said.

Duru said the book is also meant to help fathers express love in ways that may not come naturally.

鈥淥ur hope with the book is to allow fathers who may not have that instinct to express love in that way to do so through the book,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e want this book to be a tool for fathers who may not be as comfortable expressing their emotions to their child, telling their child, 鈥業 love you.鈥欌

For Duru, one of the book鈥檚 most meaningful moments focuses on a father comforting a child who has fallen off a bike.

鈥淎 father is holding his child and comforting the child and explaining that the child鈥檚 pain is the father鈥檚 pain. The father feels it as well, and the father wants to do everything he can to alleviate that pain for the child. To me, that鈥檚 the most touching page of the book,鈥 Duru said.

What you need to know about forever chemicals and how they can cause infertility in men /health-fitness/2026/06/what-you-need-to-know-about-forever-chemicals-and-how-they-can-cause-infertility-in-men/ Fri, 19 Jun 2026 23:51:27 +0000 /?p=29364655 For Father’s Day weekend, 海角精品黑料 is taking a look at some of the things men need to watch out for when it comes to staying healthy. One of those is something called “forever chemicals.”

Research is finding that they have an impact on infertility in men.

“No dad can fix toxic pollution with a toolbox,” said Marc Boom, senior director of public affairs at the Environmental Protection Network.

He said they’ve recently to bring awareness to how harmful certain pollutants are, and how they could cause infertility in men.

The EPN said in the report that about 172 million Americans have PFAS chemicals, known as “forever chemicals” in their drinking water, and nearly everyone in the U.S., including newborn babies, has PFAS in their blood from multiple sources, such as water, food, consumer products and indoor dust.

“Things like PFAS, which are also known as forever chemicals, phthalates and even some pesticides, can interfere with hormones and fertility and reproductive health,” he said.

So how do you protect yourself? He said there are some simple steps to take.

“Don’t heat up your food in plastic, don’t store it in plastic, that can leach out and can increase your exposure. If you’re concerned about PFAs, you can, you can look at your water utility, see what they’re doing about it. You can buy a certified filter,” Boom said.

Another thing is looking at what’s in your cookware. Non-stick cookware often includes PFAS in the coating. You could be cooking harmful toxins into your healthy food.

“There’s this whole class of emerging pollutants, like PFAS, forever chemicals that we are just starting to understand,” Boom said. “You might come across them in your water, in your air and the food you eat at work, or in your home, the products that you buy.”

“Father’s Day is a time when a lot of us think about the people we love and what it means to protect them.”
