An investigation into the business found that from 2015 until May 2025, it misled customers about ticket prices, charged deceptive fees and used illegal pressure tactics to get fans to buy tickets, D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb’s office announced Monday.

Since the start of the investigation, Live Nation has changed its practices to provide customers with information about the total ticket cost up-front and share information about fees, Schwalb’s office .

鈥淲ith this settlement, we鈥檙e putting millions of dollars back into the pockets of DC fans and ensuring that the price fans see when they first start shopping for tickets is the price they actually pay,” Schwalb said.

With the $9.9 million it receives in the settlement, D.C. will refund up to $8.9 million back to Live Nation and Ticketmaster customers. Schwalb’s office will announce details of a claims process in the coming months.

In addition to the payout, the settlement requires Live Nation to continue to display the full price of a ticket, including fees, and to share more information about fees and how they’re shared.

The settlement comes on the heels of another ruling against Live Nation last week. The District, Virginia and Maryland had joined a coalition of states that successfully argued the company had formed an anticompetitive monopoly over concert venues.

Potomac River ranks No. 1 on new list of ‘Most Endangered Rivers’ /environmental-news/2026/04/potomac-river-ranks-no-1-on-new-list-of-most-endangered-rivers/ Tue, 14 Apr 2026 20:28:06 +0000 /?p=29143406 The Potomac River is the most endangered river in the country, according to a

The organization cited two factors in its decision: January’s historic sewage spill that sent hundreds of millions of gallons of raw sewage flowing into the river, and the expanding footprint of data centers in the D.C. area that threaten water availability and quality, according to American Rivers.

“We’ve made a lot of progress on improving the health of the Potomac in the past many decades. And then in January, when the Potomac Interceptor collapsed, it set it back quite a bit. It’s not going to bounce right back,” Pat Calvert, Virginia conservation director for American Rivers, told 海角精品黑料.

“Fortunately, we do believe that it’s going to be able to recover from that. But how many more infrastructure collapses can or should a river endure?” he added.

Advocates for a clean and healthy Potomac River have reported dangerously high levels of E. coli in at least one creek near the site of the Potomac Interceptor’s failure in the months after it happened. D.C. officials, meanwhile, lifted their recreational advisory for the river in early March, saying bacteria levels are within safe ranges in the Potomac River itself.

While water quality testing is听frequentlydone to measure the impacts of the sewage spill, measuring the impact of data centers is more difficult.

“We don’t really have a cumulative assessment of how all these data centers 鈥 there are a lot of them 鈥 are impacting water quality and water quantity. They’re very thirsty, hot facilities that use a lot of water and a lot of other resources as well. So we need to make certain that we’re not approving these without full assessment of their impacts,” Calvert said.

New data center development may put additional strain on the river and its existing infrastructure.

The two threats to the river go hand in hand in a way, Calvert said.

American Rivers is advocating for rigorous monitoring of those impacts and a commitment to investing in infrastructure before rushing to approve more data centers.

“We really need Congress to reauthorize critical water infrastructure funding bills that will help localities, including D.C., to avoid collapses of major infrastructure. So this includes the bill and the sewage overflow and stormwater grant programs; they have to be reauthorized by September of this year,” Calvert said.

“And I believe the state leaders in Maryland and Virginia should ensure that data center development doesn’t outstrip the region’s ability to protect its water supplies.”

The D.C. region is home to more than 300 data centers. That number is projected to grow exponentially in the coming years. According to American Rivers, that development is happening without watershed-wide analysis, leaving the scale of impacts from data centers on the river unclear.

American Rivers said now is the time to advocate for the strongest possible protections for the river.

“In many cases, there is little to no requirement for advanced stormwater treatment, long-term remediation planning, or disclosure of water use and discharge data for projects. Many proposed facilities are upstream of drinking water intakes that serve millions of people,” the organization .

Middle East conflict blamed for temporary fluoride reduction in drinking water of 2 Md. counties /maryland/2026/04/middle-east-conflict-blamed-for-temporary-fluoride-reduction-in-drinking-water-of-2-md-counties/ Wed, 08 Apr 2026 20:34:34 +0000 /?p=29124979 WSSC Water is temporarily reducing the level of fluoride added to the drinking water of its nearly 2 million customers in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland.

The utility said in a news release the reduction is due to “nationwide supply challenges linked in part to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.”

Starting Wednesday afternoon, fluoride levels will go down from approximately .7 milligrams per liter to .4 milligrams per liter.

According to WSSC Water, one major supplier of hydrofluorosilicic acid, the compound used to fluoridate water, is based in Israel and has experienced “significant operational impacts” in recent months.

Fluoride is not mandated by federal or state regulations, but is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization to help strengthen teeth and prevent cavities, WSSC Water said.

鈥淭his is a temporary adjustment driven solely by supply availability,鈥 WSSC Water鈥檚 Director of Production Ben Thompson said in a news release. 鈥淲e remain committed to maintaining safe, high-quality drinking water and will restore optimal fluoride levels as soon as supply conditions stabilize.鈥

The utility encouraged customers to talk to their dentist or health care provider about alternative sources of fluoride while the reduction is in effect.

WSSC Water did not say when normal fluoride levels would be restored.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser will give the call to do so Friday at Nationals Park as the Washington Nationals play their first home game of the season at 1:05 p.m. against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

And there will be plenty of fanfare to celebrate the start of a new season, the team’s 21st birthday and the nation’s 250-year history.

Gates open at Nats Park at 11 a.m., and the team said fans should be in their seats by 12:15 p.m., if they want to enjoy the pregame ceremonies:

  • First pitch features “a number of individuals who have helped grow the game,” the team said
  • The national anthem performed by the U.S. Army Ceremonial Band, along with “America the Beautiful” and “God Bless America.”
  • About 250 military members will form a tunnel for starting lineup and manager introductions.
  • Nation’s colors presented by Joint Armed Forces Color Guard
  • Flyover from four F-16C Fighting Falcons from the 121st Fighter Squadron of the D.C. Air National Guard

But before all that, some horsing around.

The Budweiser Clydesdales will take a tour around the neighborhood of the ballpark at 10 a.m. Fans can take photos with them in front of the center field gates from about 10:30-10:45 a.m.

The party continues Saturday, when the Nats and Budweiser team up to throw a 21st birthday celebration. (Yes, the Nationals will soon be old enough to legally drink alcohol.)

The team played its first game April 4, 2005.

Saturday’s celebration will include birthday party hat giveaways, more photo ops with the Clydesdales, live music at the Budweiser Terrace, free cupcakes at locations around the ballpark and free Budweiser swag during happy hour, with the purchase of an Anheuser-Busch product.

Saturday also happens to be Japanese Heritage Day at the ballpark with star pitcher Shohei Ohtani in town.

Those two words from Mayor Bowser can’t come soon enough 鈥 play ball!

The robberies began at 1:30 p.m. on March 20 and followed a similar pattern. According to police, suspects described as women in SUVs would approach other women in parking lots, start conversations and offer them jewelry.

As the suspects placed costume jewelry on the women, they would use sleight of hand to remove the women’s real jewelry, driving off before the victims knew what happened, police said.

After reviewing surveillance footage and identifying one of the vehicles involved, Fairfax County police issued a nationwide bulletin for a white 2026 Toyota Highlander registered out of state. The next day, Delaware State Police stopped the Highlander as it was entering a shopping center in New Castle.

Troopers in Delaware detained and identified those inside the Toyota, including , 21, of Baltimore. She was then let go.

Detectives in Fairfax County said they have since identified Paun as a suspect in two of the March 20 thefts and obtained warrants for felony pickpocketing and robbery. She is wanted, and police are asking the public for information regarding her whereabouts.

The exact times and locations of each theft are listed below:

Quad amputee pro cornhole player is denied bond. Attorneys argue he shot his friend in self-defense /charles-county/2026/04/quadruple-amputee-facing-murder-charges-in-maryland-ordered-held-without-bond/ Wed, 01 Apr 2026 20:29:11 +0000 /?p=29104638&preview=true&preview_id=29104638
Quadruple amputee facing murder charges in Maryland ordered held without bond

The quadruple amputee and professional cornhole player accused of murder in Charles County, Maryland, fatally shot his friend in self-defense, his attorneys argued Wednesday.

A judge denied the request for bond from Dayton Webber, 27, of La Plata, during his first appearance in Charles County District Court. Webber will remain in jail until his next court appearance for a preliminary hearing on May 6.

He’s charged with first- and second-degree murder in the March 22 shooting death of 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells. Webber was driving a white Tesla with Wells and two others when he fatally shot Wells, the front-seat passenger, during an argument.

After the shooting, authorities said, Webber asked the two other passengers to help remove Wells from the car, but they refused and left the scene. According to deputies, Webber then drove Wells’ body to Charlotte Hall, Maryland, about 12 miles away, and dumped his body.

Police in Charlottesville, Virginia, later arrested Webber.

Both of the other passengers in the Tesla told deputies they witnessed the argument and saw Webber shoot Wells, according to charging documents, with one telling authorities Webber shot Wells twice in the head.

In court, Webber’s attorneys argued there was a long-running feud between the two and that Webber accused Wells of stealing a gun from him. The attorneys said Webber killed Wells in self-defense.

“He was 100% justified in defending his life from an immediate lethal threat,” defense attorney Andrew Jezic said. “Dayton was terrified of being killed. Dayton knew that he had to shoot or be killed. Dayton has overcome a ton of adversity in his life, and he will do so again in this case by focusing on the truth. The truth here is he would have been a murder victim had he not acted immediately in defense of his life.”

Deputy State’s Attorney Karen Piper Mitchell would not speak to the self-defense claim directly, but said the prosecution felt strongly that Webber should be kept in jail, since he initially fled to Charlottesville after the shooting.

The shooting has drawn national attention and raised questions about how Webber, who lost both arms and legs as an infant due to a bacterial infection, could carry out such an attack. Videos posted to show him loading and firing a gun.

DC mayor calls for permanent curfew ahead of council vote on emergency extension /dc/2026/03/dc-mayor-calls-for-permanent-curfew-ahead-of-council-vote-on-emergency-extension/ Mon, 30 Mar 2026 22:08:39 +0000 /?p=29097368 D.C.’s emergency curfew for young people is set to expire during spring break, sparking even more concern from officials about youth “takeovers” in the District as the weather gets warmer.

The D.C. Council will consider emergency legislation Tuesday to prevent the curfew from expiring on April 15 and extend it through Sept. 25.

Several gatherings of young people, dubbed “teen takeovers,” have resulted in violence in recent years, including on Halloween, several weeks after the 2025 emergency summer curfew expired. D.C. officials reinstated the curfew shortly after the Halloween chaos resulted in fights, traffic disruptions and arrests.

On March 14, about 200 people congregated in Navy Yard. That evening, someone fired a gun into the air, multiple people were robbed and two teens were arrested, police said.

The citywide curfew states those under 18 can’t be out in public or at an establishment in D.C. from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., . It also allows D.C. police to designate certain areas as juvenile curfew zones, where those under 18 cannot gather in a group of nine or more. Those zones can prohibit minors from gathering after 8 p.m., ahead of the general citywide curfew.

Since it’s an emergency measure, extending the curfew legislation past April 15 would require approval from nine council members. A permanent curfew would only require seven votes.

“We had a hearing in the Judiciary Committee, and we’re going to be marking up that bill soon, and it will move through the body,” Ward 2 Council member Brooke Pinto told 海角精品黑料. “The emergency legislation requires nine votes, and my hope is that my colleagues agree that we need to extend this authority, especially as the weather gets nicer and warmer. This is when we tend to see more of these ‘youth takeovers’ in certain areas of the city.”

Pinto is confident she would have the votes to pass a permanent curfew law, but she said she’s not so sure about Tuesday’s vote.

“I’m still working to persuade my colleagues,” she said.

Speaking at a news conference Monday, Mayor Muriel Bowser told reporters now is not the time to let the emergency legislation expire.

“I don’t know why you would want to take away a tool that we need going into spring break and the summer. To me, it would be absolutely ludicrous,” Bowser said.

She also expressed frustration at the need for the council to continuously reconvene and approve emergency legislation in order for the curfew to remain in place.

“I think the council should stop playing games with this. This is a tool that we need. We’re going to keep coming back every 90 days, and you’re going to keep asking me the same question. We need it. We’re going to come back 90 days from now, stop playing games and move to permanent,” Bowser said.

Some council members, including Robert White and Zachary Parker, have expressed apprehension toward a permanent curfew, viewing the temporary curfews that have been implemented and reinstated over the course of more than a year as a temporary response.

White has expressed the need for more youth services and vocational programs, something he said would be a better long-term fix to the rise in disorderly teen gatherings.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 think we have enough focus there,鈥 he said during a separate vote on youth curfews in December. 鈥淚 think passing this youth curfew lets us off the hook for doing that work, which is critical for reducing juvenile crime.鈥

NC man strikes 2 officers during pursuit through DC, Md. and Va., police say /crime/2026/03/nc-man-strikes-2-officers-during-pursuit-through-dc-md-and-va-police-say/ Thu, 26 Mar 2026 18:14:32 +0000 /?p=29084446 A North Carolina man eluded police in D.C., Maryland and Virginia, striking a D.C. police officer and crashing into multiple vehicles, including a Virginia State Police car, on the Capital Beltway in Virginia, where he was taken into custody early Thursday morning, according to police.

Titus Mayo, 22, of Winterville, North Carolina, was charged in Virginia with eluding, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and other traffic-related offenses. Police in D.C. and Prince George’s County, Maryland, told 海角精品黑料 they are still determining charges.

It started Wednesday night just before 10 p.m. near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Forrester Street, in the Bellevue neighborhood in Southwest D.C., where District police officers tried to pull over the driver of a white Range Rover. The driver refused to stop and struck a D.C. police officer who was on foot, according to Virginia State Police.

The driver sped off, and the D.C. police officer was treated at the hospital for injuries and later released. D.C. police issued a lookout for the vehicle, then described as a white, new model Range Rover with temporary South Carolina tags.

Prince George’s County police spotted the car just after 3:30 a.m. Thursday and tried to pull over the driver, who sped off and led officers on a chase that traveled over the Woodrow Wilson Bridge into Virginia, according to state police.

Troopers in Virginia then joined the pursuit, which continued onto the southbound Capital Beltway, where state police said Mayo struck a vehicle that had moved to the left shoulder to try and avoid the chase. The driver of that vehicle was taken to the hospital for their injuries.

Mayo then swerved across the lanes of the Beltway and struck a Virginia state trooper’s vehicle, according to state police, who said the trooper had minor injuries but did not go to the hospital.

After the crash, Mayo was arrested and taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Park Police officer shot in DC was following man just released from custody /dc/2026/03/park-police-officer-shot-in-dc-was-following-man-just-released-from-custody/ Wed, 25 Mar 2026 23:06:54 +0000 /?p=29081596 The U.S. Park Police officer shot Monday in D.C.’s Marshall Heights neighborhood, in what police described as an ambush, was following a man who had been released from custody the same day, according to charging documents.

Asheile Foster, 22, and his 21-year-old brother, Darren Foster, are both charged in the shooting.

The officer was hit in the left shoulder, treated at the hospital and has since been released.

Charging documents say Asheile was arrested on a drug possession charge Sunday and released the following day. He returned to Park Police’s Anacostia facility Monday evening to pick up his belongings.

As he left the station, officers followed him to conduct surveillance for a separate case 鈥 a shooting that occurred Friday in D.C. According to court documents, Asheile is a person of interest in that case and police wanted to pin down his address to execute a search warrant.

Members of Park Police’s Major Crimes Unit followed Asheile from the Anacostia station to 51st Street SE in Marshall Heights, which is about a 20-minute drive. The officer who was shot was driving the lead surveillance vehicle 鈥 an unmarked, white Tesla Model Y.

Moments after arriving to the area of 51st Street and Drake Place (also known as Queen’s Stroll Place), the officer was shot and transmitted over police radio: “Shots fired 鈥 I’m hit, but I am good.”

Police recovered more than 30 shell casings from the scene.

Suspect knew he was being followed

According to an interview with the family member who picked up Asheile from the police station Monday, which court documents later refer to as “Witness 1,” Asheile knew he was being followed after he left the station.

As the pair were traveling on D.C. Route 295 northbound, the driver noticed the white Tesla following them and alerted Asheile. When they reached Benning Road, close to their final destination in Marshall Heights, the driver saw police vehicles and wanted to stop, but Asheile told the driver, “No [relationship redacted] don’t stop,” court documents state.

Asheile’s brother Darren was outside, according to the documents, waiting for his brother to arrive in the area of 51st Street and Drake Place SE. Darren told police he had gotten a call informing him that his brother was being followed and to come outside.

Once his brother arrived, followed by the Tesla, Darren told police he went to investigate why the Tesla was following his brother and that suddenly, gunshots came from the Tesla. Darren denied having a gun or firing any shots.

According to charging documents, police conducted a round count on the duty pistol of the officer who was driving the Tesla 鈥 the same officer who was shot 鈥 and there were no rounds missing.

Detectives then played Darren surveillance footage from the scene that showed him walking into the street to confront the Tesla, at which point Darren agreed the man shown in the footage was him. But when detectives zoomed in on the footage at the moment he appears to fire gunshots toward the Tesla, Darren then told police it was not actually him in the footage.

The officer who was shot told investigators he remembers a man banging on the hood of his Tesla in an attempt to try and stop it from passing, at which point the officer swerved around him. It was then that the officer heard shots and was struck by gunfire, charging documents state.

According to the documents, another individual at the scene then handed a rifle to Asheile as the officer in the Tesla was driving away, and Asheile fired numerous rounds.

After searching the home associated with the brothers, police found a rifle, 9mm pistol and ammunition consistent with the casings recovered from the scene of the shooting. Both are charged with the federal crime of assault on a federal officer, and several D.C. assault and weapons-related charges.

The brothers made their first court appearance Wednesday before a federal judge, who ordered them held without bond.

One person hospitalized after being shot by police in Montgomery Village

A 27-year-old man is in the hospital after he was shot by a police officer in Montgomery Village, Maryland, Tuesday evening.

The shooting happened just before 5 p.m. in the 18400 block of Lost Knife Circle. Officers were patrolling the Off-Price Center on Contour Road due to numerous complaints of criminal activity when they saw a man acting suspiciously and tried to stop him, Montgomery County Police Chief Marc Yamada said.

The man ran into a nearby apartment complex and officers chased after him. As the officers were rounding a corner, the man fired shots at them, according to Yamada. An officer returned fire, striking the man.

The man, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive, Yamada said. No police officers or bystanders were hurt.

According to Assistant Chief Darren Francke, the man officers were chasing was shot in the upper torso and leg.

Francke said the department has received frequent complaints about potential criminal activity in the area and officers have been directed to patrol the area to “restore order.”

“These officers come out here every day, on a citizen complaint, to try and make this community safer. 鈥 They’re trying to make this community safer and put themselves on the line and deal with this,” Francke said during a news conference Tuesday night.

Officers did not elaborate Tuesday on why officers chased the man, other than saying he was exhibiting suspicious behavior in the shopping center.

The officer involved will be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

School’s out: Montgomery Co. students will get summer started sooner than planned /montgomery-county/2026/03/schools-out-montgomery-co-students-will-get-summer-started-sooner-than-planned/ Tue, 24 Mar 2026 18:29:07 +0000 /?p=29077480 The school year in Montgomery County, Maryland, will end June 18, instead of June 26, after the Maryland State Board of Education approved a resolution to waive three days of student attendance.

Montgomery County Public Schools had made a mid-year adjustment to extend the school year to June 26 in order to make up for school cancellations caused by severe winter weather. The school system then had to request the state for relief from the extension.

In its request, Superintendent Carey Wright for permission to end the school year on June 18, after 177 days of instruction. Maryland typically requires 180 instructional days.

According to the school district, its adjusted calendar still meets the state’s requirements of 1,080 hours of instruction for elementary and middle school students and 1,170 hours for high school students.

“Our goal is to make learning time meaningful and we know that extending late into June would lose much of that meaning,” school district officials said Tuesday in a letter to families.

Under the new calendar, April 15 will be an early-release instructional day. June 15-17 will be full instructional days, while June 18, the last day of school, will be an early release day.

The school system also told families it’s preparing to submit a plan for virtual learning during inclement weather, which will allow the district to continue providing instruction during multiday closures. School officials are also reviewing next year’s calendar to mitigate future interruptions, the school system said.
